Stationary Terminals

Stationary devices are often used at cash desks where speed and reliability are important. Empty batteries or failed WiFi cannot cause any damage here.

Benefits
Permanently installed, stationary devices are extremely reliable and often connected to a cash register. There are various ECR-interfaces available.
Features
Stationary devices often still work under Linux and are therefore usually cheaper than Android-based mobile terminals.

Unattended Terminals

Unattended terminals are permanently installed and connected to an unattended machine and its control system. There are variants for indoor and outdoor use, with and without a PIN-Pad to enter the PIN number, only contactless as well as with chip and magnetic stripe readers.

Mobile Terminals

Mobile terminals are powered by a battery and are connected to the Internet via WLAN and/or mobile communications. They are also becoming increasingly popular in stationary retail because of their flexibility.
SoftPOS is a special form, turning ordinary smartphones and tablets into card terminals.
